Alexander Prudhomme, Jr., 93, a native and life-long resident of Welsh, LA.  Alex was born on June 3, 1924 in Welsh, LA to the late Alexander Prudhomme, Sr. and Sylvania Prudhomme.  He lived his life serving God, his country and fellow man.  Alex departed his earthly home to be with the Lord on January 5, 2018, while surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Alex was a World War II Veteran and served at Normandy Beach. He later served the citizens of Welsh as a City Councilman for numerous years and served as Mayor Pro-Temp.  He was a member of the Rotary Club of Welsh; the Knights of Peter Claver Council 48; the Meritorious Fourth Degree, Assembly 22, VFW Post 9046 and the American Legion Post 283.

Alex was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Essie Mae Prudhomme; both parents, Alexander Sr. and Sylvania Prudhomme; three brothers, Robert Lee, John Curly "JC" and Wilbur; two grandchildren, Martin J. Cummings, Jr. and Marquetta D. Cumminmgs; one great-grandson, Draelone Nixon.

Alex is survived by four daughters, Frances L. Victorian, Bernadine Cummings of
Welsh, LA, Aleisa Jenkins (Ronald), and Aleisha Matthews (Rodney) of Houston, TX; three sons, Alexander Prudhomme, III (Clarissa), Michael L. Prudhomme (Tracy) of Welsh, LA, Larry J. Prudhomme (Deborah) of Iowa, LA; 22 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ida Mae Pitre and Mariah Drake; one brother, Clarence Prudhomme (Kitty); a host of nephews, nieces, friends and other relatives.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Welsh, LA. Father Roland Vaughn will be the celebrant.  Visitation will be in the Church at 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral.  Burial will be in the Bon Pasteur Cemetery in Welsh, LA under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings, LA.  Full military rites will be accorded at the gravesite by a U.S. Army Squad from Fort Polk.  The Patriot Guard will serve as honor guards during the visitation, funeral, and gravesite services.

Visitation services will be held from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Friday evening on January 12, 2018 at Semien-Lewis Mortuary in the David J. & Rosa W. Fondel Church Chapel at 819 N. State Street in Jennings, LA.
