Almonia Lewis Gremillion was born February 5, 1933 in Pointe Coupee Parish and reared in Morganza, Louisiana. She was born to the union of Adam Lewis and Selena Caddo. She was the seventh child born to this union. In the early 1950s, she left beautiful Morganza and moved to Baton Rouge where she resided until her death. She was married to Alex J. Gremillion, Sr. for over 30 years and mothered eight children through this union. Almonia was converted and filled with the fire of the Holy Spirit at the age of 12. She was baptized into the membership of Little Rock Baptist Church in Morganza, LA. Almonia loved the LORD and dedicated her life to serving Christ. She became ordained as a Mother in 1967, hence the name "Mother Gremillion;" and licensed as a minister in 1995. As a Missionary she faithfully worked under the leadership of the following churches: Gloryland Baptist Church, Antioch Baptist Church and True Light Missionary Baptist Church. For many years, she held weekly prayer services in her home under the name of "The Hour of Prayer & Blessings." Almonia was a true servant and spent her secular life caring for others as a licensed practical nurse for over 20 years. She valued higher education and worked hard to acquire her practical nursing certificate in 1971; a bachelor of science degree in 1997; and a master of arts degree in 1999. Whenever she had the opportunity to have "Almonia time," you could always find her on the fishing pond. Almonia was the matriarch of the family and will be truly missed by her family and friends. God blessed us to have her with us for 79 years. We truly loved her, but God loved her best. She leaves to cherish her memory six children: Arthur J. Gremillion, Seril G. Carroll, Donald R. Gremillion, Gary G. Gremillion (and wife, Muriel), Corlis G. Lewis (and husband Arthur), and Tenita G. Harris, all of Baton Rouge, LA; one sister, Luberdia White, of Baton Rouge, LA; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter; and numerous, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by two sons, Alex J. Gremillion, Jr. and Terry K. Gremillion; three sisters, Velma L. St. Amant, Gladys L. Julian, and Dorothy L. Jeanpierre; her parents, Adam and Selena Lewis; and her grandmother, Ada Coates Lewis, who reared her and she affectionately referred to as "mama."
