Alzina M. Matthews, age 79, went home to be with God on Monday, April 13, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Alzina was born in Carencro, LA on February 10, 1936 to her loving parents, Rene Matthews and Lula Mae Arceneaux. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the David J. and Rosa W. Fondel Church Chapel at Semien-Lewis Mortuary at 819 N. State Street in Jennings, LA. Father Charles McMillin, Pastor of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church will officiate. Visiting will begin at 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral mass. Burial will be in the Lacassine Catholic Church Cemetery under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary. She leaves to cherish her memories, four daughters, Ella Mouton, Florena Pierre, Lorena Bellard, and Alberta Brooks; one brother, Gilbert Matthews; four sisters, Patsy (Russell) Mayfield, Mary L. Augillard, Irene Johnson, and Florena Matthews. Alzina was preceded in death by her companion, Rufus Alexander; one daughter, Linda Duhon; one grandchild, Othello Pierre; one brother, Raymond Matthews; her father, Rene Matthews and mother, Lula Mae Arceneaux; one great-granddaughter, Ales Pierre.
