Mr. Amos Holmes, 92, of Jennings, passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, August 11, 2024, while surrounded by his loving family. Amos was born on November 16, 1931, in Wildsville, Louisiana to the late Bessie Beard Holmes and Eugene Holmes. At the age of 21, Amos enlisted in the United States Army, serving two years and received an honorable discharge. Amos worked many years as a Welder for SBA Shipyard until his retirement. He enjoyed playing cards with his family & friends and was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons of Louisiana.
Amos leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Mrs. Amanda Hawkins Holmes of Jennings, LA; his children, Wally Hawkins, Raynetta Richard, Bathsheba Thomas, Lyndon Kateley, Herbetta Manuel, Demetrus Manuel, and Aaron Perkins, Jr; one goddaughter, Lilly McZeal; his brothers, John Holmes, Exneliance Holmes, and James Holmes; his sisters, Mable Caesar Holmes; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Amos was preceded in death by his parents, Bessie and Eugene Holmes; his brothers, Samuel Holmes and George Holmes; his sisters, Beulah B. Wilkerson and Carol Holmes.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, August 17, 2024, in the Church Chapel at Semien-Lewis Mortuary, 819 N. State Street in Jennings, LA. Reverend Dr. Kieran D. Coleman will officiate. Visiting with family and friends will be held in the chapel from 9:00 am until the time of Celebration Services. Burial will be in the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery on Monday, August 19, 2024, under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings, LA. Military Honors will be accorded by an Army Squadron from Fort Johnson Army Base.
