Betty Jean Collins Moore, 81, a resident of Lake Arthur, LA., was called to her reward on Tuesday, July 10, 2012. She was a retired school teacher from the Jefferson Davis Parish School Board with 50+ years of service. Betty was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Lake Arthur, LA., where she served as Director of Christian Education. Betty was born on May 21, 1931 to the late Roosevelt and Elma Collins. She leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Valerie (Thomas) Pete of Lake Charles and Adrieenne Abel of Lake Arthur; four grandchildren, Robert (Santana) Holman of Lake Arthur, Jordan Turner of Lake Charles, Alix and Samantha Abel of Lake Arthur; five great-grandchildren, Dailyn, Danielle, Isaiah, Elijah, and Xavier; a special friend, Robert Rubin of Jennings; a dear cousin, Erma Thomas of Lake Arthur. She was preceded in death by both parents, Roosevelt and Elma Collins. Betty was a graduate of Jeff Davis Training School in 1948 and Spellman College of Atlanta, GA. She was employed at Charles P. Adams Southside Elementary School; Lake Arthur High School and Elementary School. She served the community in a number of capacities as a former Alderwoman of Lake Arthur; GED Instructor; a founding member of the National Association of University Women (NAUW) Jeff Davis Branch; Vice President of 1990 Reapportionment Committee for Jeff Davis Parish; Director of Head Start in Jennings, Jeff Davis Parish; worked with the Youth Encampment Program; Director of Religious Education at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Columbus, OH. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Union Baptist Church with Reverend Gerald Perkins, Pastor officiating. Visitation will be in the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of religious services. Burial will follow in the Saint Anthony Catholic Church Cemetery in Lake Arthur, LA. under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary.
