Mr. Clarence Simon, 86 was born on October 9, 1927 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Dallas (Pearl Arceneaux) Simien-Simon. Bro. Clarence was taught to be a true and genuine man of God. He accepted Christ at a young age and he worked diligently for his church, family and the entire community. His joy and love was extended when he married Mrs. Doris Marie Brown Simon on September 16, 1950. To this beautiful union, nine children were born. Bro Clarence was very active in his church and served as past Chairman of the Trustee Board, Treasurer, President of the United Methodist Men, a member of the Administrative Council, Pastor Parish Relation Committee, Nominating Committee, Finance Committee and Communion Steward. Bro. Clarence was known for his delicious "barbeque" techniques that helped the church's major fundraiser every month. He worked 6-years at Welsh Rice Growers. Bro. Clarence was head Boss at Dixie Vaults for eleven years and was employed for the John Deer Mutual Warehouse for 30-years as the paint and body shop Foreman. Bro. Clarence's talent led him to work as a school bus driver for 18-years for Jeff Davis Parish School Board. He served 58-years in law enforcement which included Civil Defense, Welsh Police Department and Jeff Davis Sheriff Department. As a milestone of recognition, he was the 2007 recipient of the Council on Aging "Senior Citizen Still at Work" Award. The Masonic Lodge #131 has had the presence of Mr. Simon for 62-years in which he served as past Worshipper Master for three years with strong participation within the organization. He leaves to cherish his wonderful memories, his loving and devoted wife of 63-years, Mrs. Doris Simon; 9 loving children, Sonja (Calvin) Thorne of Hitchcock, TX., Clarence (Carolyn) Simon, Jr. of Jennings, LA., Brenella Simon of Welsh, LA., Kim (Terry) Vital of Huntsville, AL., James Simon, Sr. (Jennifer Singleton) of Welsh, LA., Ivory (Marie) Simon of Welsh, LA., Stephon (Jacqueline) Simon of Welsh, LA., Craig (Lucille) Simon of Lake Charles, LA., and Nicole Simon of Kemah, TX. He leaves a legacy of 40 Grandchildren, 42 Great-Grandchildren, 11 Step-Grandchildren and 12 Step Great-Grandchildren; Two sisters, Dorothy (Albert) Freeman of Temple, TX. and Fannie Simien-Simon of Houston, TX.; one brother-in-law, Rolland (Eula) Viney of Beaumont, TX.; two sister-in-laws, Lois Faye Rowlins of Beaumont, TX. and Bernadine Smith-Johnson of Lake Charles, LA.; three Godchildren, Diane Sims of Houston, TX., Bernadine Smith-Johnson of Lake Charles, LA. and Dwayne Viney of Jennings, LA.; a great host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Bro. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dallas (Pearl Arceneaux) Simien-Simon; one sister, Betty Lemonia-Guidry; three brothers, Dallas Simien-Simon, Jr., Ivory "Man" Simien-Simon and John Lemonia; two grand-children, Christina Simon-Vital, "Lil" Ivory Jack, mother-in-law, Viola Viney, father-in-law Felix Viney and Alfred Brown. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 1:00 pm in the Jones United Methodist Church of Welsh, LA. with Reverend Louis Currie, Pastor officiating. Visitation will be in the church from 8:00 am until the time of funeral. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Welsh, LA. under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings, LA.
