Mrs. Constance Lorraine Charles-Savoie , 76. after a lengthy illness went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 in the Jennings American Legion Hospital. Constance was born on January 28, 1942 in Jennings, LA to the late Celestine Charles and Rogers Charles, Sr. She was a native and life-long resident of Jennings, LA. Constance was educated in the Jefferson Davis Parish School System and was a graduate of Jennings High School. She was a graduate of Grambling State University and later was employed by the Jeff Davis Parish School board where she retired after 21+ years of service. She was baptized at an early age and was a faithful member of St. Paul Baptist Church, pastored by Reverend Pernell R. Trent, Sr., where she served in the Church Choir.
Constance is survived by her husband, James Ray Savoie, Sr; three children, Consuella (Henry) Briggs of Baton Rouge, LA., James Ray (Erica) Savoie of Jennings, LA., and Bashawn Nicole (Marty) Savoie of Jennings, LA; sister, Rosa "Puggy" (Warren) Kelly of Texas City, TX; seven grandchildren, Taeler S. Miller, Kurtis J. Duhon, James R. Savoie, III., Tavion L. Snearl, Javiel S. Palfrey, Kennon J. Palfrey and Kenneth D. Palfrey; two great-grandchildren, Sutton Duhon and Saegan Duhon; Aunt, Dorothy Mae Davis of Hitchcock, TX., uncle, Amos Holmes; three sister-in-laws, Ella Savoie, Rose Dell Savoy of Jennings, LA., Mary Nell Savoy of San Fernando, CA. and Linda Savoy of Houston, TX; one brother-in-law, Paul Savoy of Houston, TX; cousin/sister, Martha Coleman of Jennings, LA; a close friend, Amanda Holmes of Jennings, LA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Constance was preceded in death by her mother, Celestine Egbia Charles; father, Rogers, Charles, Sr; three sisters, Ruthie Mae (Paul) Perkins, VeEtta (Joseph) Cornelious, Rogena (Boe) Pete, brother, Reverend Rogers (Diane) Charles, Jr; two brother-in-laws, Claude Savoy and Roy-Lee Savoie; two sister-in-laws, Annie Savoie and Marie Savoy.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2018 at St. Paul Baptist Church, 1502 South Main Street, Jennings, LA. 70546 with Reverend Pernell R. Trent, Sr. officiating. Visitation will be held in the church at 12:00 p.m. until the time of religious services. Burial will be in Benevolent Cemetery in Jennings, LA. under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings, LA.
