David Banks, 80, entered into eternal rest at his residence on Thursday, March 18, 2021. David was a native and life-long resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was born on December 1, 1940, in Scotlandville, LA to the union of the late Ben and Alice Banks, Sr; he was the ninth of ten children. David accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and was baptized at New Light Missionary Baptist Church by the late Reverend Noah Chinn.
David received his education in the public school system and later worked as a Cement Finisher for many years. He was united in holy matrimony to the late Laura Mae Johnson of Bogalusa, Louisiana. There were no children born of this union.
David leaves to cherish his memories, his dedicated caretakers, Leon (Hattie) Halford and Shantel Carter; one sister-in-law, Daisy Banks; one brother-in-law, Thomas Chenevert; five grandchildren, Robin Williams, Darlene Williams, Steven Williams, John Thompson, Jr., and Chris Dent; nine great-grandchildren, Zamynie Williams, Zy'Kearien Williams; Aniya Williams, Aubre Williams, Daniel Williams, Howard Calhoun, Jr., Deontra'e Calhoun, Karvell Williams, TyWayne Williams and Jayden Thompson; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
David was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Mae Johnson; his daughter Denise "Lazelle" Marie Williams-Dent; his parents, Ben & Alice Banks, Sr; his siblings, Henry Banks, Ethel Halford, Ben Banks, Jr., Matt Banks, Leo Banks, Samuel Banks, Rose Lee Carter, Gatha Ray, and Corine Chenevert; his great-granddaughter, Darneshia Williams.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Victory Ministries, 10120 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA. Dr. Nichelle Landry will officiate. Visiting will be in the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Celebration Service. Burial will be in Southern Memorial Gardens in Baton Rouge, LA. under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings, LA.
