David Monroe Pitts was born January 6, 1941, in Bernice, LA.  The 5th child of James Monroe Pitts and Ruth McGee Pitts, David grew up in a loving Christian environment that merged home and church, where he saw love in action.  David graduated from Elliott High School in Bernice, LA, in 1959.  He enrolled at Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA., where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Arts and was highly recognized with such honors as one of the Persian Rifles leading the pack.  He later earned his Master's Degree from Nicholls State University.

After graduating from Southern University in May of 1963, He married his college sweetheart, Chester Lee Williams, affectionately known as "Mikki."  Mikki and David were quite the couple on Southern University's Campus.  He joined the military (Army) and together they had two daughters, Monica Monique Pitts and Davida Monique Pitts. He worked in Slidell, LA and Sulphur, LA at Leblanc Middle School. He eventually returned to his Alma Mater, "The Great Southern University and A&M College" as the Industrial Arts Teacher, where he remain for 30 years and retired, along with building beautiful homes in and around the Baton Rouge area.  David was known to be quite the character and he will always live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew him. He was called to eternal rest on March 18, 2026.

He loved Southern University and going to the football games every chance he got and especially traveling up and down the highways to North Louisiana, in his voice "I'm going to Dots house ". He was affectionately known as "Uncle Mon" by all his nieces, nephews & siblings.

He was preceded in death by his parents James Monroe Pitts and Ruth McGee Pitts, three brothers Abraham J. Pitts, Robert James Pitts, Dempt Pitts and One sister Ruthie Bell Pitts Morris.

He leaves a legacy of memories to his two daughters, Davida Monique Pitts (Damon) and Monica Monique Pitts, affectionately called " Money"(Daniel); 2 grandsons, Stephan L. Pitts of Lake Charles, LA and Quincy C. Savala of Spring, TX; 3 granddaughters, Mariah A Senegal, Deja M Senegal both of Lake Charles, LA, and Marseille Marie Rose Savala of San Antonio, TX; 7 great-grandchildren, Stephan L Pitts Jr., Sheriah E. Monroe, She'Niya R. Monroe, She'Myra G. Monroe, Sherome R. Monroe Jr., Roderick L. Moore Jr., Rashad L. Moore, all of Lake Charles, LA; one devoted sister, Dorothy Pitts Fitch of Bastrop LA. and a loving sister-in-law, Marjorie Pitts of Tallulah, LA;  nieces, Lynn Pitts of New York, NY., Connie Morris his "Chinaman" of Birmingham, AL., Gena Morris Bradford and Ava Pitts "The Lone Ranger" of Washington, D.C and Neisha Morris of Minden, LA;  nephews, Lafraniere O'Keith Morris of Shreveport, LA, Rory D Pitts of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Ron C Pitts of Tallulah, LA and Terrance Pitts of Washington, D.C.; a host of cousins, extended family, and friends.

Homegoing Celebration Services for David Pitts will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Semien-Lewis Mortuary, 819 N. State St. in Jennings, LA, with his nephew, Rory D. Pitts and cousin, Pastor Rev. Clee Earnest Lowe officiating.  A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the time of Celebration Services.  He will be laid to rest at SWLA Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Jennings, LA. on Monday, March 30, 2026 under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings, LA  Military Honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army.
