Derrick James Prudhomme, Sr., 42, of Welsh, Louisiana, affectionately known as "Big D" passed away Thursday, August 5, 2021.  Derrick was born on October 5, 1978, in Jennings, LA to Cynthia Prudhomme and Dexter Simon.  Derrick worked as a laborer in the construction industry in the states of California and Louisiana.  He was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Welsh, LA., pastored by Reverend Nathan Stevens.  Derrick loved joking around and was the life of the party.  He enjoyed being with his family and friends.

Derrick is survived by two children, Dataviah Prudhomme and Derrick James Prudhomme, Jr., both of Welsh, LA; his mother, Cynthia Prudhomme of Houston, TX; his sisters, Cyntisha Jackson (Rocky) of Lake Charles, LA., and Cyntonya Prudhomme of Houston, TX; his brother, Dexter Prudhomme of Eureka, CA; his grandchild, My'Klia Prudhomme of Welsh, LA; a host of other relatives and friends.

Derrick was preceded in death by his father, Dexter Simon, and one stepson, Mykel Guillory.
