Derrick Wayne Lavergne, 62, transitioned from earthly labor on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Baylor St. Luke Medical Center in Houston, Texas. He was a native of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and a resident of Huffman, Texas. Derrick was born on November 2, 1963, in Lake Charles, LA, and his parents are Betty Dean Sullen Lavergne and the late Freeman Lavergne. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. Derrick received his primary and secondary education in the Calcasieu Parish School System, and later attended Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, LA. He was employed as a Project Refractor Manager with Louisiana Pigment Company for the past 17 years.
Derrick was preceded in death by his father, Freeman Lavergne; his maternal grandparents, Rose & Jules Sullen; and one aunt, Glenda Walls.
Derrick is survived by his children, Maurita Chantel Martinez and Krista DeLynn Lofters, both of Houston, Texas; his grandchildren, Ocho M. Lavergne, Marc A. Martinez, Kane G. Hernandez, Kash M. Lofters, Judah N. Lofters (Andre), all of Houston, Texas; his beloved mother, Betty Dean Sullen Lavergne of Huffman, Texas; his sisters, Sheral Ann Lavergne of Houston, Texas and Janice Faye Brewster of Maryland; his brothers, Vernell Lynn Lavergne of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Freeman Paul Lavergne II of Baytown, Texas; his stepbrother, Rodney Mudd of Atlanta, Georgia; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Mt. Calvery Baptist Church, 300 N. Blake Street in Lake Charles, LA. Pastor Reverend Elmore Garner will officiate. Visiting with family and friends will be in the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the celebration services. Interment will be in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings, LA/
