Mrs. Doris Simon , 81 was born in Welsh, LA on February 23, 1934 to the late Mrs. Viola Lewis Viney and Mr. Alfred Brown. She departed this life on January 6, 2016.

Sis. Doris was reared at a young age to be a loving and spiritual vessel for the Lord and for her family. She accepted Christ at a young age and she worked faithfully for her church, family and the entire community.

Her special determination and talents were seen throughout her life, all her life. Her love was truly extended when she married her soul-mate and "Honeybun" the late Clarence "Papa Lou" Simon on September 16, 1950. Although this beautiful union raised nine children, Sis. Doris was always the caregiver and protector of so many other family member's children throughout her lifetime.

Sis. Doris was very attentive and active in Jones United Methodist Church. She served as past President of Jones Methodist Women Organization that continued as President for Jones United Methodist Women Society up until her death.

She was past church Treasurer, Chairperson of the Administrative Council from 1999 – 2013. Former Chairperson of the Pastor Parish Relations and was the 1,000 Club Representative for the United Methodist Church. Sis. Doris has served on the Finance Committee, Trustee Board, Nominating Committee and a member of Jones Chancel Senior Choir. She was the recipient of "This is Your Life" recognition and also the Mother's Day Honoree for the United Methodist Children's Home.

A precious time at church revealed her to be our Crowns of Angels winner! "Mamee" was truly about her hats, shoes and clothes of distinction. Sis. Doris shared her many talents as a voice for the community and for anyone who needed her help. She was former President of the Glittery Social Club for 35 years in Welsh, LA and former member of Theu Social Club, Lake Charles, LA for 30 years. Sis. Doris was former President of NAACP in Welsh, LA and former Vice-President of NAACP for Jefferson Davis Parish. She was former Legal Aggress Representative for Welsh, LA area.

Sis. Doris worked the Civil Defense for her community. She was a former member of the American Legion Post #64 and Rose of Sharon Eastern Star #53. Her love for nursing was extended to 35 years of service that included Welsh General Hospital, Jennings Guest House, Jennings American Legion Hospital, St. Patrick Hospital, Lake Charles Memorial Hospital and private duty nursing.

Sis. Doris was a school bus driver for Jefferson Davis Parish School Board for 18 years and she also served as a part-time cafeteria worker at Welsh Elementary and Welsh High School.

She leaves to cherish her wonderful and loving memories, her nine angels; Sonja (Calvin) Thorne of Hitchcock, TX, Clarence (Carolyn) Simon, Jr. of Jennings, LA, Brenella Simon of Welsh, LA, Kim (Terry) Vital of Huntsville, AL, James Simon, Sr. (Jennifer Singleton) of Welsh, LA, Ivory L. (Marie) Simon of Welsh, LA, Stephon (Jacqueline) Simon of Welsh, LA, Craig (Lucille) Simon of Lake Charles, LA and Nicole Simon of Texas City, TX.

She leaves a legacy of forty Grandchildren, forty-five great-grandchildren, eleven step-grandchildren and eighteen step-great grandchildren; three sisters, Lois Faye Rawlins of Beaumont, TX, Bernadine Smith-Johnson of Lake Charles, LA, Ollie Brown of Oakland, CA; one brother, Rolland Viney of Beaumont, TX; two sister-in-laws, Dorothy (Albert) Freeman of Temple, TX and Fannie Simien-Simon of Houston, TX; Special Cousins Dorothy Seivier of Temecula, CA, Lena B. Grubbs of Houston, TX and Verma A. Thibodeaux-Gloston of Welsh, LA; Two godchildren, Rolland Viney of Beaumont, TX and Dwayne Viney of Jennings, LA; a great host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Viola Lewis Viney, Alfred Brown and step-father Felix Viney, her husband Clarence Simon; eight brothers, James Viney, Robert Earl Viney, Arthur Viney, Ernest Viney, Rodney Viney, Felton Viney, Isaiah Viney, Adam Viney; one sister Olivia Wicks; two grandchildren, Christina Renee Vital and Ivory Jack Simon; her grandparents, Napoleon and Elvia Lewis and one grandmother, Rose Brown.
