Dorothy Lee Barr, 92, of Jennings, LA, affectionately called "Ms. Dot", transitioned from earthly labor on Monday, July 6, 2026, at her residence while surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Jennings, LA, and was born on October 26, 1933, to the late John Miller and Viola Jacobs Miller. She was educated in the Jefferson Parish School System and later worked in Housekeeping at local hotels. Dorothy accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at an early age. Dorothy was a member of the Eastern Star. She was a devoted member of Union Baptist Church in Jennings, LA, pastored by Reverend Gerald D. Perkins, Sr. She was married to the late Elbert Barr.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Barr; her son, Darren Haywood; two grandsons, Derrick Sowells and Louis Earl Miller Barnum; her great-grandson, Kaiden Daniels; her parents, Viola & John Miller Sr; her brother, John Miller Jr.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories, five children, Dianne Haywood, Patricia Sowells, Judy Daniels, Bennetta Gail Barnum, and Terrell McGhee; one brother, Alton Miller; her grandchildren, Sherese Cook, Kedrick Bernard, Kevin Haywood, Sonya Woolsey, Trinisha Jackson, Symone Daniels, Brianna Daniels, Lorenzo Davis, Zeno Barnum, Elton Barnum, James Keith Barnum, Saran Haywood, Duran Haywood, Kendall Rogers, Lil “D” Haywood, and Brandy Barnum; her great-grandchildren, Bryson Calais, Dylan Shelton, Ryan Haywood, Austin Daniels, Robert Bugg III, Robert Woolsey III, Rae Woolsey, Ann Lynn Sowells, Sheria Sowells, Zeno Barnum V, Jaylen Barnum, Prince Barnum, Messiah Barnum, Zion Barnum, and Zara Davis; a host of other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Union Baptist Church, 1014 S. Main Street, Jennings, LA, with Pastor Reverend Gerald W. Perkins, Sr., officiating. Visiting with family and friends will be held in the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Celebration Services. Burial will follow in Parkview Cemetery under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings, LA
