Sister Edolia Williams, 90, departed this life at her residence in Gueydan, LA on November 13, 2024.  She was born in Lake Arthur, LA on November 3, 1934, to her loving parents, Ada and Sye Mitchell Sr.  Sister Edolia lived most of her life in Gueydan, LA., where she was known as Mrs. Williams the "Teacher."

Sister Edolia was baptized at an early age at Antioch Baptist Church in Lake Arthur, LA.  She left Antioch Baptist Church to attend the Catholic Church in Gueydan.  Sister Edolia returned to Antioch Baptist Church and served as head of the Mission Department and was a member of the Deaconess Ministry.  She was a faithful member of the Rosa Bud Eastern Star in Jennings, LA, for many years.  Sister Edolia was faithful in attending Antioch Baptist Church until her health declined.

Sister Edolia began her life-long dedication to continuous learning by earning her High School Diploma at Jeff Davis High School in Jennings, LA. She attended Grambling State University and Texas Southern University, and earned a Bachelor Arts Degree in Education from Grambling State University.   Sister Edolia later earned a Master's Degree from Prairie View A&M University.  She was a retired educator and taught for 28 years; first teaching at Jesse Owens Elementary and later Gueydan High School.

Sister Edolia was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Williams; her mother, Ada Mitchell; her father, Sye Mitchell Sr; her sisters, Rosa Mae Brown, Emma Walker, Dollie B. Jackson, Verna Roach, Lula Bell Jones and Eula Mae Mitchell; her brothers, J.B. Mitchell, Sye Mitchell, Jr., and Matthew Mitchell. She was the last of 11 children.

Sister Edolia leaves to cherish her precious memories, her son, Roderick (Alberta) Williams, Sr; five grandchildren, Phaedra (Louis) Leger, Roderick Williams, Jr., Tristan LaCour, LaDonna Williams, and Sasha Rudd; 2 great-grandchildren, T'Nia Leger and Roderick Williams III; 1 great-great-grandchild, Kyson Smith; 10 godchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
