Mr. Gerald Wayne Fondel, Sr. passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at East Houston Hospital in Houston, TX.  He was born in Lafayette, LA on December 23, 1961 and lived most of his life in Lake Charles, LA.  Gerald was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where he serves as a member of the Male Chorus.

Gerald attended Pearl Watson Jr. High School, Lake Charles High School and was a 1979 graduate of Washington High School where he was a member the Marching Band and played the Alto Saxophone.  Gerald attended the historic Grambling State University from 1979 to 1982 where he received a Marching Band Scholarship.  He later enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country for three years.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Karen Lynn Fondel of Houston, TX; three daughters, Tamika Hope Fondel of Lake Charles, LA., Desiree Mayo of Houston, TX. and Eleanor Papion of Lake Charles, LA; one son, Zackery (Carmelite) Fondel of Lake Charles, LA; three stepchildren, Marcus Anthony Bass, Bianca Lynn Faulk, Charles Faulk, and Kendrick Lee Faulk, all of Crosby, TX; parents, Theresa C.  & George C. Fondel, Sr. of Lake Charles, LA; one brother, George C. Fondel, II of Houston, TX; three sisters, Trimone Fondel (Johnathan) Alex of Lake Charles, LA., Rosa Fondel (Curl) Alfred and Lindsey Papion of New Orleans, LA; twenty-one grandchildren; sister-in-law, Kim Fondel; a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Sandra Fondel; son, Gerald Wayne Fondel, Jr; one brother, Garry D. Fondel; great-grandmother Eleanor Nevells; grand-parents, Dorsey & Eleanor Simmons, David James & Rosa W. Fondel; one aunt, Frances Fondel-Gordon; five uncles, John Fondel, James C. Fondel, Marion Fondel, David James Fondel Jr. and Raymond M. Fondel Sr.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Lake Charles, LA. with Pastor Elmore Garner officiating.  Visitation will be in the church from 9:00 am until time of funeral.  Bural will follow in Combre Memorial Park in Lake Charles, LA
