Sister Gloria Mae Barker Broussard
,
age 92, peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 while in the Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. Gloria was born in Port Arthur, Texas and lived most of her life in Silverwood, Louisiana. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful and devoted member of Little Sunlight Baptist Church in Silverwood, LA., pastored by Reverend Craig Sams, where she served as Church Secretary, Sunday School Teacher and Mother of the Church. She was a member of the Roseland Chapter of the Eastern Star and was a Community Activist. Gloria was a Retired Cook of 25 years with the Jefferson Davis Parish Head Start Program.
Sister Gloria is survived by four sons, Frank (Carolyn) Broussard of Plaquemine, LA., Leon (Rita) Broussard of Silverwood, LA., Douglas (Dawn) Broussard of Lake Charles, LA., and Alan Broussard of Silverwood, LA; six daughters, Catherine Anderson of Silverwood, LA., Esther (Larry) Haley of Beaumont, TX., Pamala (Terry) Jones of Houston, TX., Paulette (Dalbert) LaFleur of Beaumont, TX., Brunhilda (Reginald) Rice of Memphis, TN., and Renee Leftwich of Beaumont, TX; one sister, Thelma Hillard of Los Angeles, CA; one brother, Leo Barker of Lancaster, CA; daughter-in-law, Irma Broussard of Welsh, LA; forty grandchildren; one-hundred fifty great-grandchildren.
Sister Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Walford Broussard; son, Ronald Broussard; brothers, Lawrence Barker, Leroy Barker, Wilford Barker, Charles Barker and Willie Barker; sisters, Nora Villery, Ethel Berry; grandson, James Anderson; Parents Crawford and Esther Barker.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Union Baptist Church, 1014 S. Main Street, Jennings, LA. with Reverend Craig Sams officiating. Visitation will be in Union Baptist Church from 9:00 am until the time of Funeral. Burial will be in the Silverwood Community Cemetery under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings, LA.
