Herbert Lee Charles age 71, a native of Lake Charles, LA., died at his residence in Carson, CA., on December 14, 2014. Herbert was born on March 31, 1943 in Opelousas, LA to his loving parents, Hector & Delsia Charles. He was raised in Lake Charles, LA., where he was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and was a graduate of Washington High School. Herbert enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War. After an honorable discharge from the military, he moved to Las Vegas, NV. and later moved to Los Angeles, CA. Herbert is survived by his wife, Betty Charles; two sons, Dutch and Pajet Charles; two grandchildren; four sisters, Delores (Murphy) Fontenot, Ester (John) Stills, Wanda Charles all of Lake Charles, LA., and Janice (Percy) Domonique of Greensboro, NC; one brother, Mallory Charles of Lake Charles, LA; a host of cousins and friends. Herbert will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by both parents, Hector & Delsia Charles; two brothers, Dudley & Ronald Charles; two sisters, Patricia Charles Pickens and Joyce Charles Edwards; maternal grandparents, Hampton & Celestine Jones; paternal grandparent, Adam Charles. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Monday, December 29, 2014 10:00 am at the Greater New Light Baptist Church, located at 1154 E. 92nd Street in Los Angeles, CA. 90002. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Halverson, Stone & Myers Chapel, located at 1223 Cravens Avenue in Torrance, CA 90501 (310-328-1223).
