James Melvin Carrier, 85, of Welsh, Louisiana passed away peacefully at his residence while surrounded by his family.  James was born in Welsh, Louisiana on March 15, 1940, to the late Agnes Cretchen and Melvin Carrier.  James was educated in the Jefferson Davis Parish School System and later was employed as an 18-Wheeler Truck Driver and was a member of the Teamsters Union.  His truck driving career afforded him an opportunity to travel all over the United States.

James was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  James was an avid outdoorsman; he loved fishing, and hunting for rabbits with his beloved Beagels.  He also loved riding horses and participating in Trail Rides with family and friends.  James was a member of the El Fig Rough Riders Horse Stable Club. He enjoyed attending Rodeos and outdoor cooking.  James was affectionately referred to as "The Cook" and the "Ham Hock Man."    Anyone who knew James, knew that he was a good dancer; he perfected the "Bull Frog Dance.  He would often be seen wearing a baseball cap or a cowboy hat.

James leaves to cherish his fond memories, his wife, Ruby Carrier; his children, Thermon Carrier, Karen Carrier, Veronica Carrier, Velencia Cleveland, Vera Roberts, Douglas Skinner, Tina House, Kenneth Morris, Bridgette Carrier, Daphanie Carrier, Katesshia Carrier, June Carrier, Darrell Handy; his grandchildren, Cameron Garris, Asha Carrier, Aspen Carrier, Brianna Carrier-Harvey, Justin Carrier, Joshua Campbell, Lane Alexander, Sharish Davis (Justin), Charis Davis (Preston Murray), Pamela Tripeaux, Keisha Davis, Robert Joseph, and Unique Patton; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Agnes Cretchen and Melvin Carrier; his brother, William Lynn Joseph; his sister, Janie Lee Norris, his former wife, Regina Carrier; his sons, Robert Carrier, Paul Skinner, Lawrence Skinner, Calvin Skinner, and Herbert Skinner; his daughter, Deborah Skinner.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 5, 2025, in the Church Chapel at Semien-Lewis Mortuary, 819 N. State Street in Jennings, LA.  Reverend Dr. Darrell K. White will officiate.  Visiting with family and friends will be in the Chapel from 9:00 am until the time of Celebration Services.  Cremation will follow under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings, LA.
