James Gale Tyler, 74, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023, in St. Gabriel, LA. James was a native of Welsh, Louisiana and was born on November 25, 1949, to the late Marvin Joseph Tyler and Leona Lockett. James accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Welsh, LA. He completed his education in the Jeff Davis Parish School System. James served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged after 2 years of service. James was awarded the Bronze Star, the Vietnam Combat Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Overseas Service Bars during his military service. He worked as a Tool Man in the Oil Field Industry. He also was a member of the American Legion Post in St. Gabriel, LA.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Joseph Tyler and Leona Lockett-Kempson; one brother, Brian Wayne Tyler; one sister, Marshall Marie Tyler-Clay; his paternal and maternal grandparents.
James leaves to cherish memories, four children, Rhonda R. Prudhomme, Kenya Tyler-Jones, Jim P. Tyler, and Henry Tyler; three brothers, Gregory Allen Tyler (Veronica), Marvin Anthony Tyler, and Gill Jackson; one sister, Carla Tyler; 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Saturday December 16, 2023, at St Joseph Catholic Church, 310 N. Sarah Street in Welsh, LA. Pastor Reverend Dr. Mathew Panackal will officiate. Visiting with family and friends will be held from 9:00 am to 10:30 am in the Church Chapel at Semien-Lewis Mortuary, 819 N. State Street in Jennings, LA. Cremation will follow under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings, LA
