Jimmy Russell Catlon was born February 23, 1955, to Thelma S. Catlon and the late Alvin Catlon in Lake Charles, LA.  He was the third of seven children.  He was reared in the Christian Faith and was a member of the Greater Freeman Church Of God In Christ.

Mr. Catlon lived a full and enjoyable life.  He traveled the United States as a Truck Driver and was known for telling his many humorous stories of the places he visited and for always telling someone about the shortest and fastest route of how to get to an unfamiliar city.  The only thing is, there was a huge difference in riding in an 18 wheeler down a rough and bumpy road than in your personal little Toyota Corolla.  After his truck driving career was over and due to a terrible traffic accident in Baton Rouge, Louisiana followed by open heart surgery, he retired to a peaceful country life in the city of Jennings, Louisiana.

Besides his truck driving stories, he would often remind the family of how he did not graduate high school but scored one of the top scores on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Tests.  This became the foundation for his entrance in the United States Air Force where he served as a fireman.  He often told his nieces he was an astronaut going into space when he showed them pictures in his silver fire retardant uniform and oversized head gear equipped with respirator.  And yes, the nieces went to school and told everyone their uncle had gone to space.

Jimmy rededicated his life to Christ after he began driving Mother Catlon to Bible Study after she no longer felt safe driving home from Lake Charles to Mossville in the dark.  He joined the Brownsville Church Of God In Christ on 18th Street under the leadership of Elder William Alexander where he later served as Deacon Brother and Sunday School Teacher.  He later united with the Greater Freeman Church Of God In Christ (GFC) and continued his service in the ministry as Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Catlon and brother, Marshall Catlon.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving mother, Missionary Thelma S. Catlon; one daughter in love, Meosha (Ottric) Lymon of Jacksonville, FL;  two sisters, Amber (Victor) Ware and Sarah Catlon of Lake Charles; three brothers, Michael (Jo Ann) Catlon of Dallas, TX., Oran (Melody) Catlon, and Darnold (Ethel) Catlon both of Lake Charles, LA; two grandchildren in love, Ottric Lymon III and Theron A. Lymon; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral service will take place Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Greater Freeman Church Of God in Christ, located at 2627 Hodges St., Lake Charles, LA.  Burial will take place at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 22, 2025, in Perkins Cemetery in Westlake, LA under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings, LA.
