Joan "Nanny" Simon, 87
, a native and life-long resident of Jennings, LA, passed away peacefully at her residence on April 2, 2021. Joan was born on December 3, 1933, in Jennings, LA to the late Early Simon Sr. and Courtney O'Brien-Simon. She was educated in the Jefferson Davis Parish School System. Joan was baptized at an early age by the late Dr. G. C. Chaney. She was a faithful member of Union Baptist Church, pastored by Reverend Gerald W. Perkins, Sr. She served in the Senior Mission Choir at the church. Before retiring, she was self-employed as a babysitter, caring for young children in the community.
Joan is survived by her children, Joanna Simon, Alice Henry, and Quinn (Mary) Simon; two brothers, Joseph Simon and Early Simon, Jr; two sisters, Lillie Sanders and Yvonne Celestine; four grandchildren, Krystal Henry, Courtlynn, Quincy, and Bryson Simon; three great-grandchildren, Zakaria Henry, Kalani Maxwell, and Brielle Henry; three Godchildren, Mary Cormier, Nordell Reed, & Terry Simon, Sr.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Early & Courtney Simon, Sr; a sister, Lillie Sanders; two brothers, Joseph Simon and Early Simon, Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Union Baptist Church, 1014 S. Main Street, Jennings, LA. Reverend Gerald W. Perkins, Sr. will officiate. Visiting will be in the church from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Peterson Memorial Cemetery in Jennings, LA under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary. Face coverings and Social Distancing Guidelines are required.
