Sister Joyce Cormier Dugas Andrus was born on April 18, 1923, in Ellis, Louisiana to the late Henry Cormier, Sr. and Mary Louise Daigle Cormier. She was the last of the ten siblings to depart this world. While she was with us, she lived by two basic principles; "Walk Humbly Before The Lord" and "Love Everyone."

She developed a life that showed a strong reverence for the Lord and unconditional love for all. She was always active in her church and community affairs. In her later years attending church meetings at the local, district, and state levels was her joy. Many of her lifelong friends were attendees of church meetings. She loved the Lord and enjoyed being in the presence of other believers.

Her commitment to family is evident in the four generations that have known her love and support. She mastered being a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother to all of us collectively while still being that special person to each of us individually. She made us all her favorites. From this one hundred and one years of life, she leaves behind her 6 children: Brenda D. Harmon of Lafayette, LA., Irma Gail D. Dean of Humble, TX., Gregory (Elena) Dugas of Alta Dena, CA., Lavell Danielson of Grapevine, TX., Dayna D. (Kenneth) Woods of Aubrey, TX., and Mark (Betty) Dugas of Mermentau, LA., 21 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and 15 great-great grandchildren, and blended family members, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Ernest Dugas, Sr. and her second husband, Simon Andrus. She bid farewell also to her oldest child Ernest Dugar, Jr., and one grandson Jared Harmon, her parents, Henry L. and Mary L. Cormier, brothers, Rodney, Wesley, Henry, Juel, and Curtis Cormier, (Infant sisters Ruby L. and Mary Gladys), Annie Barker, and Flossie Holmes.

This faithful servant of God transitioned from earthly labor to her heavenly reward at her residence in Mermentau, LA., with her family at her side.

Celebration of Life Services will be held on Saturday, Mary 4, 2024 at Union Baptist Church, 1014 S. Main St. in Jennings, LA.  Reverend Gerald W. Perkins, Sr. will officiate.  Visiting will be held in the church from 9am until the time of Celebration Services.  Burial will follow in the Mermentau Memorial Cemetery in Mermentau, LA under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings, LA.
