Lawrence Jack "Pappy" Woods, 86. passed away at his residence while surrounded by his loving family.  Lawrence was born in Elton, LA., on January 12, 1934, to the late Earl Woods Sr. and Rose Jack-Woods.  Lawrence united in holy matrimony with Malene LeDay Woods and to their union, seven children were born.  "Pappy" was a retired Carpenter and School Bus Driver with the Jefferson Parish School Board.  "Pappy" was a devoted husband for forty-three years until his wife's passing in January 1997.  He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. "Pappy" worked hard to provide for his family and he built homes for all of his children.  He loved fishing, traveling, visiting friends, and drinking coffee with family and friends.  "Pappy" loved working in his garden, growing okra, raising cattle, sheep, and pigs.   He loved helping people and he loved his dog, Mollie.

"Pappy" was a devoted member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in Elton, LA. pastored by Reverend Freddie Jack.  He was a man of faith and helped to build churches while traveling all over the United States.

"Pappy" leaves to cherish his memories, his son, Larry Woods (Sherry) of Elton, LA; four daughters, Ruthia Simon (Stanley), Janett Delaphous (Michael, Carolina Woods Lavan, and Sheryl Woods all of Elton; one brother, Leonard Woods of Elton; four sisters, Laura Thierry, Lovenia Comeaux (Fred), and Wilda Ceasar, all of Lake Charles, and Georgiana Simon of Elton; fourteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one Godchild, Annie Belle Guillory; and close friends, Chona Hissner and her husband Jonathan.

"Pappy" was preceded in death by his wife, Malene LeDay Woods; parents, Earl Sr. and Rose Woods; two daughters, Elizabeth Woods and Nita Wilson; three brothers, Robert Woods, LeRoy Woods, and Earl Woods, Jr; two sisters, Ida Mae Babineaux and Geraldine Moreaux; one grandson, Eric James Lavan.

Celebration of Life Services for "Pappy" will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 14, 2020, at Faith Deliverance Temple Pentecostal Church, 4772 Powell Rd, Elton, LA 70532.  Pastor Milton Clayton will officiate.  Visiting will be in the church from 8:00 a.m. until the time of Celebration Services.  Burial will be in Eternal Rest Cemetery under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings, LA.
