Lesby "Pinko"
Lewis
Aug 9, 1932 — Feb 4, 2022
Lake Charles
Lesby "Pinko" Lewis, 89, transitioned peacefully from earthly labor to her heavenly reward on Friday, February 4, 2022, with her son Michael at her side. She was born in Lake Charles, LA on August 9, 1932, to the late Isaac Lewis & Thelma Shorten Lewis. Lesby accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the Late Rev. Moses Tillman Jackson at New Sunlight Baptist Church in Lake Charles, LA. She was a dedicated life-long member of New Sunlight and served as the Greeter and Recording Secretary for Visitors and New Members. She also served as the secretary for Vacation Bible School. Lesby was a graduate of the Historic W. O. Boston High School with the Class of 1955. Upon graduating high school, she attended Grambling State University. Lesby worked as a Teacher's Aide at Jackson Street Elementary and later Ralph F. Wilson Elementary and retired from the Calcasieu Parish School System after 34-years of dedicated service. She loved working with children and never viewed her employment as a job but to her, it was a calling.
Lesby loved watching and cheering for her beloved Dallas Cowboy Football Team and would proudly wear her team jersey and cap. She also loved cooking for family and sharing Sunday meals with them. She was known for baking cakes and pies, with Coconut Cakes and Sweet Potato Pies being two of her favorites. Lesby loved her family and would look forward to Sunday gatherings at her home on Railroad Avenue. She was loved dearly by her siblings, her son, and all of her beloved nieces, and nephews. She was affectionately called "Pinko" by her friends and Auntie Pinko or Nanny Pinko by her nieces and nephews. Whenever you asked "Pinko" how she was doing, she would reply "Fine As Wine" and "The Lord Has Been Good To Me". We give all praise and honor to God for blessing her life with longevity and for giving us her for the time that we had her in our lives.
Lesby is survived by her son, Michael John Lewis; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Lesby was the last living sibling and was preceded in death by all of her brothers, Carol, James, Miland, Lloyd "Shag", Arthur "AJ", and Benjamin "Ben Ray" Lewis; her parents, Issac & Thelma Lewis.
