Linda Mitchell Loyd, 79, transitioned from earthly labor on Saturday, April 11, 2026, in Lafayette, Louisiana. Linda was born on July 10, 1946, in Lafayette, Louisiana, to the late Mae Hilda Guillory Mitchell and Joseph Mitchell, Sr. Upon completing her secondary education, Linda attended college and later became certified as a Surgical Tech and worked in the Surgery Department until her retirement. Linda was baptized at an early age and was a faithful member of Union Baptist Church, pastored by Reverend Gerald W. Perkins, Sr. Linda served as Mission President, a faithful member of the UBC Celestial Choir, Women's Sunday School Teacher, Bible Study & Prayer Meeting, member of the Benevolent Society, 7th District Assistant Area Leader for Calcasieu & Jefferson Davis Parishes, and Worship Leader for the Women's Department of the 7th District
Linda leaves to cherish her memories, two sons, Kenneth Smith of Baton Rouge, LA and Augustus James Mitchell of Sugar Land, TX; two grandsons that she reared, Dominic Mitchell and Coy Mitchell; four brothers, Eric Pierre of Jennings, LA, Pastor J. J. Mitchell of Baton Rouge, LA, Charlie Mitchell (Geraldine) of Lake Charles, LA, and Harvey Jackson (Mary Bell) of Clarksdale, TN; three sisters, Edith Smith of Baton Rouge, LA, Pauline Outerbridge of Lake Charles, LA and Evelyn Fontenot of Lake Charles, LA; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
Linda was preceded in death by one daughter, Dwana Mitchell; her parents Mae Hilda & Joseph Mitchell Sr; two sisters, Eva Mitchell and Katherine Handy; three brothers, Woodrow Pierre, Lindbergh Pierre, and Clarence Pierre.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Union Baptist Church with Pastor Reverend Gerald W. Perkins Sr. officiating. Visiting with family and friends will be held in the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Celebration Services. Interment will be in Peterson Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings, LA.
