Sister Lucy Bilbo, a devoted mother and grandmother, a faithful servant of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ transitioned from earthly labor to heavenly reward at the age of 90 years on Saturday, May 18, 2024, surrounded by her loving and devoted family. Sister Lucy Bilbo was born on December 3, 1933 to Alex and Gertie Jones Haley. She was baptized by Rev. A.C. Sister Lucy Bilbo was very active in service to the Lord at an early age. She was a Sunday School Teacher, a Choir Member, the Church Secretary, Mission President, and a Deaconess. She was active in the 7th District Mission and loved teaching mission lessons at the monthly district meetings. Sister Lucy Bilbo loved studying and sharing God's word with everyone. Vernon McGee and listened to his radio programs daily no matter where she was. Sister Lucy Bilbo was a true prayer warrior; she could send up prayers like no other and was always asked to pray at various functions and for family & friends.
Sister Lucy Bilbo was married to the late Wesley Fontenot, Jr. and became the mother to Donald, Linda and Sharon. She later married Elmon Bilbo and became the "bonus" mom to Howard, Noel Sr., Rodney Sr. and the late Sandra Murray. Sister Lucy Bilbo worked all of her young life, first as domestic help to many families in the Roanoke community, then as a certified nursing assistant at the Jeff Davis Nursing Home until her retirement. She was known as Mama Lucy or Mother Lucy to her co-workers.
Lucy leaves to cherish her memories, three sons, Rodney Bilbo (Sharlese) of Conroe, TX, Noel Bilbo, Sr (Margaret) of Houston, TX, and Howard Bilbo of Houston, TX; two daughters Linda Johnson of Roanoke, LA and Sharon Haley of Lake Charles, LA; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends and extended family.
