Mary Louise Smith-Bates , 72, beloved mother, was called to her eternal resting place on September 2, 2020. She entered this world on November 4,1947, in Lake Charles, LA, born to Henry and Louella Smith. She is survived by her children, Stacy, Karen, Larry and Kimberly Bates; three sisters Beatrice Green, Cheryl Willis (Leonard) and Wanda Bartie; one brother, Henry Lutcher; one foster sister, Zania Evans; one foster brother, Michael Duffy; grandchildren, great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mary was a true believer in Christ and served him all her days. She was family-oriented and fiercely devoted to her children and grandchildren and loved her family unconditionally. Compassionately, she served in the capacity a Certified Nursing Assistant and Home Care Provider for more than 30 years.  She was able to retire after working tirelessly over 50 years and enjoy doing the things she loved

Mary loved football, decorating, cooking, shopping, spending time with family and friends.  She was a Christian who wholeheartedly believed in God. She had an unwavering faith and lived by the word of God and had an unwavering faith in God.  If she could say anything now, it would be, trust in the Lord and to always love and take care of one another.

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, September 12, 2020 in Greenwood Cemetery, 1204 Roberts Avenue (Hwy LA- 97) Jennings, LA. with Reverend Dr. Samuel C. Tolbert, Jr. Officiating.  A drive-thru/walk-thru viewing will be held from 9:30 am until 10:30 am, Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Semien-Lewis Mortuary, 819 N. State Street, Jennings, LA.  Final arrangements are entrusted to Semien-Lewis Mortuary.
