Mary Jane Mackey-Kamara , 74, was ushered into the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, December 19, 2017.  Mary was born August 30, 1943 in Grant, Louisiana.  She and her family later moved to De Ridder, LA. Where she attended and graduated from George Washington Carver High School.  Mary later relocated to Lake Charles, LA to be close to her family.  She married the late Michael Kamara.  Mary worked as a substitute teacher at Carver High in De Ridder, she also worked as a maintenance inspector at Boeing Louisiana, and worked as a Nurses Aid at several Nursing Homes.

Mary was an excellent seamstress and loved sewing.  She enjoyed decorating, caring for others, gardening, and singing with the Voices of Zion (a community choir) and praise dancing.  Mary truly loved her church family and shared her admirable traits as a Youth Praise Dance Instructor and a very good Decorator.   Mary liked for everything to be just right and wouldn't hesitate to let you know if it wasn't.  Mary loved children and taught kids how to dance for the Lord in the church.  She was a former member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, New Sunlight Baptist Church, St. John Baptist Church and currently a member of Bethel Metropolitan Fellowship Baptist Church.

Mary leaves to cherish many memories, her mother Relevia Mackey of De Ridder, LA; a stepdaughter, Veronica Kamara; grandson, Armand Michael Johnson; 3 brothers, Reverend Donald Mackey (Bernice) of Lake Charles, LA, Delbert (Brenda) Mackey of Lake Charles, LA and Robert (Carlos) Mackey of De Quincy, LA; aunt, Miriam Brown; brother-in-law, Arthur J. Lewis Sr. of Lake Charles, LA; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her father, Ivory Mackey of De Ridder, LA; brother, Charles Wayne Mackey of De Ridder, LA; sister, Ila Mae Lewis of Lake Charles, LA.
