Sister Mary Virginia Scott was born on December 27, 1947, to the late Earl and Louise Williams.  She was born and raised in St. Francisville, LA, and later moved to Baton Rouge, LA where God called her home on November 13, 2025.

Sis. Mary was baptized at an early age at Greater Central Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Wilbert Scott in Scotlandville, LA. She later became a faithful member of Douglas Avenue Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, LA under the leadership of Pastor Jesse Ghoram Jr.

Sis. Mary was educated in the West Feliciana Parish School System at John S. Dawson High School. She began the fruits of her labor early in life, holding various positions and titles.  She worked at Piccadilly Cafeteria for 8-years and at Louisiana Fish Fry for 9-years, where she later retired.

Sis. Mary was united in marriage to Joseph Scott and was the loving mother of two sons, George Thrasher Jr. and Paul Thrasher.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister—always their number one supporter.

Sis. Mary was a survivor in every essence of the word. Her faith was unwavering. She faced many challenging days but remained steadfast and never complained. She filled her life with love, strength, conversation, and joy. She especially enjoyed cooking, talking with family and watching movies on Lifetime.

Sis. Mary leaves an extensive list of loved ones and friends to cherish her legacy: Her faithful and loving husband, Joseph Scott; her son, Deacon George (Jacqueline) Thrasher Jr. of Ventress, LA; grandchildren Lamond (Teshara) Thrasher, Paullisha Thrasher, Latoya Robinson, Carla Robinson, Courtney (Christopher) Schultz, Lamar Thrasher, India Richardson, Curtis Jr. (D'Naisjha) Richardson; 17 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind six sisters-in-law, Thelma Battieste, Annie Knox, Ingrid Gourrier, Darlene Duncan, Shirley (Rev. Robert Jr.) Combs and Linda Williams; two brothers-in-law, Lionel Scott and Tyrone Scott.

Sis. Mary is preceded in death by her parents Earl and Louise Williams; her son Paul Thrasher; two sisters, Emma Lee and Velma Williams; six brothers; Earl Paul Jr., Charles, Willie, Elvin Tom, John, and Arthur Williams; her mother-in-law, Charlotte Scott & father-in-law, James W. Scott; brother-in-law, James C. Scott; a host of other relatives and friends who welcome her into her eternal home.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at Douglas Avenue Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, LA.  Visiting with family and friends will be in the church from 8:00 a.m. until the time of Celebration Services.  Interment will follow in the Louisiana National Cemetery in Zachary, LA at 12:30 p.m. under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings, LA.
