Mrs. Mary Lou Semien, 86, was called from earthly labor to heavenly reward on Sunday, April 10, 2016.  She passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loving daughters, grandchildren, family members and friends at Lafayette General Hospital in Lafayette, LA.  Mary Lou was a native Lawtell, Louisiana and a life-long resident of Opelousas, Louisiana.  She was born on February 15, 1930 to the late Joseph Handy, Sr. and Marie Semonia Semien-Handy. She attended Biagas Colored School in Opelousas, LA.

She was joined in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Frank Semien, Jr. and to that union, seven children were born.  Mary was a devoted member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA.  Left to cherish her memories are her children, one son, Emery (Charsetta) Semien of Houston, TX; six daughters, Minister Barbara Semien-Monroe of Houston, TX., Judy Semien of Opelousas, LA., Kathy Manuel of Missouri City, TX., Virgie (John) Tyler of Pearland, TX., Ruby (Herman) Antwoine of Houston, TX. and Mary Grace Mitchell of Missouri City, TX; Sisters, Thelma Briscoe of Denver, CO. and Gertrude Sims of Houston, TX; Brother, Joseph Handy, Jr. of Beaumont, TX; Grandchildren, Jeremaine Monroe, John Tyler, Jr., Derek Tyler, Kendrick Everett, Candice Semien, Clarissa Semien, Whitney Manuel, Kristy Manuel, Terrell Mitchell, Deshundra Antoine, Danielle Antoine, Maurice Williams, Christopher Williams, Tahj D'Wight Sledge, and Jenicia Elders; 18 great-grandchildren.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Semien, Jr; Sisters, Margie Lee McCarthy and Leona Mae Robert.

Funeral Mass will held at 9:00 am on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 747 N Union St., Opelousas, LA. 70570, with Father Jaison Mangalath, S.V.D. officiating.  Visitation will be in the church from 7:00 am until the time of funeral.  Burial will follow in Bellevue Memorial Park, located at 110 N Market St, Opelousas, LA under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings, LA.
