Mr. Melvin Staten, age 70, was called from his earthly labor to his heavenly reward on March 24, 2015. Mr. Staten was a native and life-long resident of Jennings, LA. He was born on May 18, 1944 to the late Frank and Annie Mae Staten. Mr. Staten was self employed as a carpenter. Mr. Staten is survived by three daughters, Marla Thomas of Riverdale, GA., Belinda McWhorter (James)of Buford, GA., Bernadette Colman (William)of Houma, LA; four sons, Glen Workman and Kevin Workman of Bryan, TX., Arthur Shaw of Texas, and Chance Stewart of Pearland, TX; three sisters, Martha Jane Wade of Hearne, TX., Jewel Matthews (Ulysse) of Big Springs, TX. and Della Chatman of Lawton, OK; one brother, Marvin Staten (Ruby) of Houston, TX; eleven grandchildren, Quinton Workman, Marcus and Robbie Sims, Mark and Christopher McWhorter, Ravin Thomas, Chance Stewart II, Cadence Stewart, Chance Stewart III, Taylor and Tia Colman; eight great grandchildren; one Godchild, Kolby Arceneaux; best friends, Ronald Broussard and Randy Lawdins; caretaker, Mary Ann Mayfield. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, Frank and Annie Mae Staten; one brother, Charlie Staten; three sisters, Bobbie Jean Broussard, Johnnie Mae Dunn, and Betty Jo Williams. Visitation is Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Semien-Lewis Mortuary from 12 P.M. until 2 P.M. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 28, 2015 in the David J. and Rosa W. Fondel Church Chapel at Semien-Lewis Mortuary at 819 N. State Street in Jennings, LA. The Rev. Ronald Cheatman will officiate. Burial will be in Hearne, TX. on Saturday April 4, 2015 in the River Side Cemetery.
