Patricia "Pat" Ann Jones, 72, was called home to glory by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, June 10, 2019 at a local hospital. At the time of her passing, her children and family friend Net was at her bedside.
Patricia was born September 25, 1946 to the late Henry and Louella (Hughes) Smith. She was a devoted member of the Greater St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church (GSMMBC) where she accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age by Dr. R.B. House. Patricia continued her membership at GSMMBC under the Leadership of Dr. Samuel C. Tolbert, Jr., Pastor until she was called home to glory.
She was a 1964 graduate of Washington High School and attended McNeese State University where she completed the paraprofessional program. Patricia was also an Eastern Star of the local chapter.
Patricia worked in the church as the Youth Director and she was the President of the Gospel Choir. She was the lead singer of the Spiritual Dimension Gospel Singers. Patricia loved to use her voice to make a joyful noise unto the Lord. She loved people and made every effort to help everyone she could. She did not meet any strangers because she believe the word of God that says "A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother." Proverbs 18:24.
Patricia was employed with Wonderland of Play Head Start program in 1979, which transitioned to the Calcasieu Parish Head Start program. She retired in 2015 after 36 years of service. Patricia work experience also included working for the Job Training and Partnership Act Summer Youth Program (JTPA) during the summers. She married Rev Cleveland Jones Sr. in 1968 and to this union they had three children.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Cleveland Jones, Sr; her parents, Henry and Louella (Hughes) Smith; sisters, Mae Francis Clines and Maxine "Candy "Smith; brothers, Floyd Smith, George Smith Sr., Randolph "Sugarman" Johnson, Willie D. "Scooby" Smith, Henry "Butch" Smith, Nathaniel "Buster" Smith, Frank Edward Smith and foster sister Bobbie George.
She leaves to cherish her memories three children, Tammie Jones Harris, Nicoah Jones-LaSalle (Harold) and Cleveland "Soul" Jones, Jr., foster daughter, Orelia S. Mason; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren; her sisters, Beatrice Green, Mary L. Bates, Cheryl Willis (Leonard), Wanda Bartie, Pearl Sias (Reginald), brother Henry Lutcher, honorary sister Doris Menard, foster siblings Zania Duffey Evans (Freeman) and Michael Duffey; God children Karen Bates, Ulanda Alexander, Ashley Jackson, and Danielle Joseph; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Greater St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, 1801 2nd Avenue, Lake Charles, LA 70601 with Dr. Samuel C. Tolbert, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be held in the church from 11:00 am until the time of funeral. Interment will be in the Combre Memorial Park under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings, LA.
