Ruby Jane Barker-Smith

Mrs. Ruby Jane Barker-Smith, 74, transitioned from earthly labor to eternal rest on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Harbor Hospice in Lake Charles, LA. She was born on September 3, 1951, in Lake Charles, LA, to the late Will Barker and Florence Guillory Barker. Ruby was educated in the Calcasieu Parish School System and graduated from the historic W. O. Boston High School. She was baptized at an early age and was a faithful member of Greater St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, pastored by Reverend Dr. Samuel Tolbert Jr.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Henry "Butch" Smith II; one son, Henry "Bugs" Smith; her parents, Florence & Will Barker; one sister, Dorothy Thomas; two brothers, Will Barker Jr. and Gregory Barker.

Ruby is survived by her sons, Floyd Smith and Gerald Smith (Alexis Redmond), both of Lake Charles, LA; two sisters, Shoran Douglas & Rena Barker; one sister-in-law, Cheryl Smith-Willis; one brother-in-law, Henry Lutcher Sr; her grandchildren, Shakevia Smith, Mya Smith, Aestassajio Simon, Floyd "Poppa" Smith, Tionna Smith, Meionna Smith, Gabrielle Smith, Isabelle Smith, and Gerald Smith Jr; one great-grandchild, Kayson Cooper; one godchild, Deandrea Jones; a host of other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Greater St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, 1917 Harless St, Lake Charles, LA.  Pastor Rev. Dr. Samuel Tolbert Jr. will officiate.  Visiting with family and friends will be held in the church from 9:00 a.m. until the celebration services.  Burial will follow in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings.
