Shirley A. Carey, 78, was born on December 15, 1943, in Jennings, LA, to the late Lodee Brown and the late Clifton Carey.  She was a native of Jennings, LA and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA.  Shirley was baptized at an early age at Mount Triumph Baptist Church in Jennings, LA.  She had a kind heart and was always willing to help others.  She enjoyed working in her beautiful yard.  Shirley served on the advising board for the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging.  She was employed by the Penniman Family in Baton Rouge and was the recording secretary at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, LA for 27 years under the leadership of the late Rev. A. L. Pitcher and the late Rev. T. E. Brown.  After the deaths of her pastors, she reunited with Mount Triumph Baptist Church in Jennings, LA under the leadership of Pastor Carl M. Fontenot Sr.

Another beautiful rose was called home from our family's rose garden on November 5, 2022, to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice in Lafayette, LA.

Shirley leaves to cherish fond memories to a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and cousins.  Also, her extended family, the Penniman and Atkins whom she adored, and many loving friends and neighbors.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Lodee Brown and Clifton Carey; her brother Wilbert Lewis; her sister Kathlyn McZeal; her two nephews/Godsons, Earon Quinton Williams and James Garland Brown.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 12, 2022, in the Church Chapel at Semien-Lewis Mortuary, 819 N. State Street in Jennings, LA.  Visiting with family and friends will be held in the Chapel from 1:00 pm until the time of celebration services.  Burial will be in Benevolent Cemetery under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings, LA.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Mt. Triumph Baptist Church Building Fund in Jennings, LA.
