Wanda Faye Smith-Bartie, 62, a native and life-long resident of Lake Charles, Louisiana was called from labor to reward on Friday, May 14, 2021, at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, LA. Wanda was born on February 25, 1959, to Henry Smith, Sr. and Louella Hughes-Smith. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized by the late Reverend Dr. R. B. House at Greater St. Mary Baptist Church. She was very active in her church and was a member of the Gospel Choir and a member of the Spiritual Dimension Gospel Singers. Wanda was educated in the Calcasieu Parish School system and later attended McNeese State University. Wanda loved helping people and worked as a Sitter with local Home Health Agencies.
Wanda is survived by her children, Al Bartie, III (Hope), Alvin Bartie (Darnisha), and Terrance Smith all of Lake Charles, LA; her grandchildren, Alex Bartie, Madyson Bartie, Alania Bartie, Ariana Bartie, Alvin Bartie, Jr., Gavin Bartie, and Omar Richard; her sisters, Cheryl Willis (Leonard) of Lake Charles, LA., Beatrice Green of Gulfport, MS., and Zania Evans (Freeman) of Fort Meyers, FL; her brothers, Michael Duffy and Henry Lutcher both of Lake Charles, LA; one great-grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Louella and Henry Smith, Sr; her sisters, Mae Francis Clines, Maxine "Candy "Smith, Patricia "Pat" Ann Jones, and Mary Louise Bates; her brothers, Floyd Smith, George Smith Sr., Randolph "Sugarman" Johnson, Willie D. "Scooby" Smith, Henry "Butch" Smith, Nathaniel "Buster" Smith, Frank Edward Smith; one foster sister, Bobbie George.
Homegoing Celebration Services for Wanda Faye Smith-Bartie, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 29, 2021, at New Faith Missionary Baptist Church, 4211 Opelousas St., Lake Charles, LA. Reverend Dr. Samuel C. Tolbert, Jr., will officiate. Visiting will be in the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of celebration services. Burial will be in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings, LA. Face covering and social distancing guidelines are required.
