Whalon Deontrez Brooks

Whalon "POP" Deontrez Brooks, 25, a resident of Lake Charles, Louisiana, passed away at his residence on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Whalon was born in Lake Charles, LA. to Ivory Brooks III and Latrisha Holmes. He was a member of Word of Faith Outreach Ministry, pastored by Pastor Gilbert Brown.  Whalon was a proud graduate of Sam Houston High School, Class of 2020. He attended Sowela Technical Community College briefly until taking ill. But, Whalon didn't let that stop him from doing what he loved. He was a graphic designer, loved baking for family and friends, and loved to sing. He belonged to the Buddy Ball Organization, and he was a very Faithful Member at his Church.

Whalon was proceeded in death by his father; Ivory Brooks III, and his grandfather, Ivory Brooks II.

He leaves to cherish his memories to his loving mother, Latrisha Holmes of Lake Charles, LA., Two brothers; Trevon Pradia of Austin, Tx., Dillon Brooks of Lake Charles. His grandparents; Jeanette (Miland) Lewis, Rayford Holmes, both of Lake Charles, LA.; paternal grandmother, Carol Sue Brooks of Lake Charles, LA. two aunts; Tabatha Harmon of Fresno, TX., Lawanna Holmes of Lake Charles (special care giver); one uncle; Kevin (Darlisa) Brooks of Spring, TX., two nephews; Daylan Brooks of Lake Charles, LA. and Kaiser Pradia of Austin, TX. Three godchildren; Daylan Brooks, Kyleena Pitre, and Alaynna Ware all of Lake Charles, LA. Whalon also had a bonus father; Jarred Stevens of Lake Charles, LA. Whalon also had two special friends; Kayla Guillory and Dorcas Edwards who he was very close with. Along with a host of family and friends.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 12 PM, at Semien - Lewis Mortuary of Jennings, LA. A visitation will be from 10 AM until time of service. Pastor Gilbert Brown will officiate. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery located in Lake Charles, LA., under the direction of Semien - Lewis Mortuary.

Whalon will be missed, but his memory will live on through all who knew and loved him.
